Mongolia is located in the Central Asia and it has an area of 1566,5 thousand square km and 8114 km borders including a 3114 border with Russian Federation in the north and a 4673 km border with China in the south.

The country extends almost 2400 km east and west. From north to south it can be divided into 4 areas, mountain-forest steppe, mountain steppe, semi-desert and the desert. The highest point is Khuiten peak in the Altai mountains at 4,374m. The lowest point , lake Khokh nuur in the east, lies at 560m.

At the end of 2001, resident population of Mongolia stood at 2442,5 thousand. Currently, 49,5 percent of the population are male, 50,5 pervent are female. In 2001, the percentage of population aged under 15 years was 32,7 percent.

The population is concentrated in the capital city, Ulaanbaatar , in the center of the country. Ulaanbaatar has a population of about 812.500.
About 87% of the population are Mongols, of which the majority belong to the Khalkha group. The official language, Mongolian. The script is cyrillic.
