THE INTRODUCTION OF THE BACHELOR-MASTER-DOCTOR
DEGREE SYSTEM IN BULGARIAN UNIVERSITIES: THE INSTITUTIONAL PERSPECTIVE
Abstract: The study analyzes the way large Bulgarian state universities introduce the new academic degree system, with the levels of bachelor, master, and doctor, into the existing system of higher education. The goal of the study is twofold: to provide a critical evaluation of the impact of the implementation of this policy upon the institutions' structure and academic content and to examine the relationship between intended change and educational policy. The study is informed by the case-study methodology and focuses on three large Bulgarian universities: St. Kliment Ohridski" Sofia University, "Paisii Hilendarski" Plovdiv University, and "St. St. Cyril and Methodii" Veliko Turnovo University.
