Learn about yourself, studying others!
Come and study
anthropology! Learning about the cultural differences in various
societies you will learn the common human experience. BA and
MA level studies in cultural and social anthropology at the University
of Latvia - Fall 2009!
Anthropology is the
science of humans considering the variety of humanly created cultures
and social forms. Anthropology has become increasingly popular in last
decades when the world shrinks,
people migrate and intensive cultural contact takes place. People also
realise the increasing complexity and variety of their own
society. Understanding common human heredity and culture process
is possible through learning cultural differences and looking at one's
own culture through the lens of other cultures. Interest in Baltic
region - political, economic and cultural change and its impact on
people's real lives unites both programmes. I
The programmes are
developed with conviction that education is not a static target, which
is obtained as eternal property once reached. The value of knowledge is
in the one's ability to build upon it and finding creative
solutions all life long. Therefore programmes not only help
developing academic career in anthropology but also offer the first or
subsequent steps in one's self-development road, offering skills and
knowledge required in entrepreneurship, civil service,
NGO sector.
The
faculty of the programme has received professional training in
anthropology in well known universities - University of Cambridge,
University of Oxford, University of Bergen, University of Bristol,
University of California, Berkeley and use their experience in
teaching.
Bachelor
and master level programmes are integrated, offering a full study cycle
according to the EU standards. Bachelor level programme offers a
classical basis for anthropology studies teaching theories and
methods in anthropology of kinship, economics, politics, religion and
culture process. Students can specialise in two of the offered study
directions. Master level programme offers studies in a higher
theoretical stage in offering specialisation in anthropology of
governance, economics and culture process. Students without previous
