Images from an old mining site in Labin, in eastern Istria. Labin is currently going through a metamorphoses from a reknown mining
town to a touristic center that is planning to offer a combination of historical and commercial sites for its tourists and residents. The Labin government plans to connect the historical, old town situated
on a hill with its industrial and mining zone. The mining site is now mostly closed and offered for sale to private businesses. The idea is to keep an existing structure as an example of industrial
arhitecture. Graffiti and paintings on the walls are now the only signs of an attempt to revitalize this huge hall that previously served as bath for miners. The area has a great potential and
although there are many ideas on how to turn this space into a usable place, there are no concrete plans yet. One of the ideas is to conduct the Project for Public Spaces' placemaking workshop on this
site for a broad Labin audience and help the community to develop its vision. |
