    The objectives of the project are to examine the implementation and effectiveness of market methods for financing culture in accession countries; propose recommendations for their development within the process of EU enlargement; write articles on the topic in selected Bulgarian journals; and write a research and policy paper for the Ministries of Culture in Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania as well as the Bulgarian Parliamentary Culture Committee and National Civil Forum for Culture in Bulgaria.   • Freedom of information in Turkey: A critical assessment

    The objectives of the project are to analyze the implementation and application of the Turkish Right to Information Act by the central government (Ministries) and local governments (Municipalities) together with the decisions made by the Turkish Freedom of Information Council; produce a final country report -based upon this research- with research findings and policy recommendations to coincide with the publication of the second annual report of the Freedom of Information Council; promote access to information and the successes and shortfalls of implementing the Turkish Right to Information Act as a useful model for other countries in the Central European region; target the findings of this project to non-governmental organizations, to civil society activists, to Turkish and Central European civil servants and government officials, as well as to the OSI network; and write research and policy study with policy recommendations for policy makers.     The objectives of the project are to review the tax and customs legislation of the European Union and the level of tax harmonization with the EU in the countries of Southeast Europe, analyze the role of the Stability Pact in trade liberalization and facilitation in Southeast Europe and the benefits and risks of establishing a free trade zone, publish the research results in a series of articles in the local media, and develop a policy paper on how the findings impact the future stability of Southeast Europe.     The objectives of the project are to conduct research on women's role in political parties in Kazakhstan as an important channel for the promotion of women to decision-making levels; study relevant global experience and its critical rethinking and application in the CIS countries; attract attention of all party functionaries to the problem of women's promotion to decision-making positions; strengthen women's involvement political parties and help increase the leadership potential of women politicians during the upcoming elections; work with political parties and movements on increasing the quantity and quality of women's representation in party managerial bodies, party lists of nominees for elections; and write research and policy paper for political parties and local representative bodies.   • Gender equality and sexuality in the Croatian school curriculum

    The objectives of the project are to produce a draft version of Croatia's educational program on gender equality and sexuality to be presented to the Commission of the Government of the Republic of Croatia for Gender Equality as a policy proposal meeting the directive of the National Policy for the Promotion of Gender Equality; formulate recommendations for programmatic interventions and provide a blueprint for implementation; begin regional analysis on gender equality policy, focusing on the educational system in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, and Yugoslavia; organize a database for further research; and write a research and policy paper in the area of gender equality and sexuality education for the Commission.     The objectives of the project are to conduct a comparative socio-economic analysis of gender inequalities in Kazakhstan; examine the influence of market transition reforms on SMEs from a gender perspective; compare various models of relevant gender policies; develop an appropriate set of qualitative and quantitative indices of gender inequality; prepare a course on Gender Economics for students at Kazakh Universities; write a research monograph on issues of intra-enterprise level gender inequalities in Kazakhstan; and write a research and policy paper for the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection in Kazakhstan and the International Labor Organization office for Central Asia.     The objectives of the project are to analyze the impact of international funding policies on the capacity of women's organizations to influence national mechanisms for gender equality in the countries of Southeast Europe; compare the development of women's movements in the respective countries, especially regarding the role of international funding in that development; compare national mechanisms for the promotion of gender equality in the respective countries; conduct a case study of the Gender Task Force within the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe (or another appropriate international funding mechanism in the region); and develop a policy paper in the field of gender policy.     The objectives of the project are to analyze the implications of Georgia's inclusion in the European Commission's New Neighborhood Policy (NNP); formulate a coherent vision of Georgia's future role and place in an enlarging Europe; develop policy recommendations for decision-makers both in Georgia and the European Commission (EC) to accommodate outlooks and expectations for the outcomes of Georgia's participation in the NNP, and write a research paper and policy study with recommendations for policymakers in Georgia and the EC.     The objectives of the project are to develop a policy paper in the fields of civil society and publishing, write and publish a handbook in Russian (and possibly Ukrainian) on the management of non-profit organizations, and provide local NGO managers with this reference tool based on Western non-profit management theory and local examples of successful NGOs.   • Hate speech in the Hungarian and Romanian press

    The goals of the project are to analyze press content that is discriminatory or incites hatred but is not punishable under existing laws; devise policy measures aimed at increasing awareness about hate speech in the Hungarian and Romanian press for both media professionals and the wider public; elaborate a concrete plan for relying on non-governmental organizations, public relations agencies, and the media to monitor and react to incidents of hate speech; and write a policy paper for policymakers working with the Hungarian and Romanian constitutional courts, media and communication departments of colleges and universities, and training schools for journalists.     The objectives of the project are to review good practice in HIA in the European Union; conduct a situational analysis of opportunities for and barriers to the use of HIA in Hungary based on a mapping of resources and stakeholder interviews with policymakers; apply the findings to stimulate the use of HIA in Hungary; prepare a workshop on HIA in Hungary together with the Dutch MATRA project and CPS/PMO; write and publish a briefing paper on good practice in HIA in the EU and disseminate appropriately; and produce a policy paper for the Chairman of the Parliamentary Health and Social Care Committee and the Prime Ministers Office.
