2003 - 2004: Pension reform: An East-West comparison
The objectives of the project are to systematically compare the politics of pension reform policymaking in Eastern Europe and Western Europe/North America; identify and explain the factors that facilitate or hamper the successful implementation of politically controversial pension reform; and write research and policy paper for the governments involved in reform of their public pension systems.

2001 - 2002: Politics of pension retrenchment in transitional regimes: Comparative institutional analysis of Russia, Romania and Latvia
The aims of the project are to examine the influence of various political institutions on the capacities of governments to cut public pension spending in accession and nonaccession countries, identify strategies to help policy makers cut pension spending with limited political costs, highlight the importance of negotiated policies and inclusive politics in managing the fiscal imbalance of public pension systems in transitional regimes with different political institutions, and develop a policy paper focusing on pension retrenchment in the context of European Union integration and globalization.
