Experience

1999/2001 Country Director - Women’s Reproductive Health Program, Johns Hopkins University/ Population Communication Services (JHU/PCS) Armenia Field Office, Yerevan, Armenia, Funded by USAID

Responsible for the operation of the JHU/PCS Armenia Field Office including the development, implementation and evaluation of the JHU/PCS Behavior Change Communication Program for women’s health in Armenia.  Program components included training programs, research and evaluation, strategy development, design and implementation of national and regional mass-media campaigns, advocacy, and capacity building at national and regional levels.
 

1997-8 Associate Director – Master of Public Health Program,  Department of Public Health, College of Health Sciences, American University of Armenia, Yerevan, Armenia (affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health)

Responsible for the administration of the College of Health Sciences, Department of Public Health’s two-year Master of Public Health Program.

Implemented and evaluated a multi-faceted nutrition intervention program to reduce risk factors for cardiovascular disease and diabetes among African Americans.
 

1990-3 Community Health Program Coordinator, Britain Nepal Medical Trust (BNMT), Khandbari, Nepal.

Responsible for BNMT’s district sub-office including the supervision and staff development for 22 local staff members and the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Community Health Program in the Eastern Districts of Sankhuwa Sabha and Taplejung (Street Theater Program, Traditional Healer Program, Community Health Volunteer Program and School/ Community Development Program).
 

1990 Research Assistant/Field Supervisor, Ethnographic Study on Adolescent Pregnancy, The Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland.

Responsible for the implementation of the field component for a qualitative study on adolescent pregnancy, including logistical arrangements, training and supervision of interviewers, assuring data quality, and providing preliminary data analysis.
 

1984-9 Teacher/ Training Consultant (Math, Science, Health Education), United States Peace Corps, Nepal.

Taught math, science, health education and English to students from 5th to 10th grades in rural schools (Taplejung District and Dailekh District) in Nepali language; conducted Teacher Training programs in math and science throughout the country; provided technical support to Peace Corps during pre-service training of new volunteers.
