2004 - 2005: HIV policy needs assessment in Central Asian countries
The objectives of the project are to analyze the drug and HIV prevention policy in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan; develop recommendations for enhancing the effectiveness of such policies and regulations; conduct onsite interviews with the directors as well as clients of harm reduction projects in Central Asia (CA), coordinators of public health programs of the international agencies working in CA countries (such as OSI, Abt. Associates, ZdravPlus, USAID, UNAIDS), representatives of administrations of the states' AIDS Centers, and the directorate of the Program on HIV prevention in Central Asia; create an online informational and educational resource for advocating democratic and effective drug and HIV policy in Central Asian countries; and write a research and policy paper for Open Society Institute's International Harm Reduction Development Program, USAID, Japan Agency for International Collaboration, and local medical, drug and HIV-related non-governmental organizations in CA.
